Usona Michele Wood

October 11, 1964 — April 7, 2018

Usona Michele Wood, better known to most as Shelley passed away Saturday night, April 7, 2018 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice with family at her side. She was born in Alabama on October 11, 1964 to Luther Glenn and Jakita Minich Barnes. She married her loving husband Ronald “Ron” Wood on January 11, 1995 and they spent 23 happy years together.

Shelley worked on the 4th floor of Huntsville Hospital as a Registered Nurse for more than 8 years where the patients and her coworkers became her second family. In her spare time, she spent hours sewing and loved making doll clothes for her granddaughter. Shelley also enjoyed drawing and left little pieces her family will treasure forever. The mere mention of Disney World and its characters made Shelley’s eyes light up like a child. According to her husband, she mentioned several times that she would love to move to Florida and work as a nurse at the parks. Shelley will be missed by all who knew her.

Shelley leaves behind her husband Ron; son, Michael Barnes; daughter, Mary Melton; brothers, Lorne (Vickie) Barnes and Luther (Lana) Barnes; sisters, Denise Hawkins, Dana (Bill) Lazenby and Taneshia (Nicholas) Kennedy and two grandchildren, Hannah Melton and Ethan Melton. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Luther Glenn Barnes III.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 11th from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm in Marshall Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are Michael Barnes, Luther Barnes, Lorne Barnes, Bill Lazenby, Chriss Minich and Carey Hawkins. Honorary Pallbearer is Ethan Melton. Her son, Michael Barnes will give the Eulogy.
