Robert L. (Bob) Wesson of Alexander City and Albertville, 95, passed away on April 18th, 2018 in his home. His funeral service will be at the Marshall Memorial Funeral Home and Memory Gardens in Albertville on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 from noon until 2:00 pm at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.
Mr. Wesson was born September 24, 1922 in Alexander City, Alabama to Robert (Rupert) Wesson and Docie Goss Wesson. Bob graduated from Alexander City High School and Auburn University. He married his high school sweetheart, Marguerite McCollough, and they had one son, Jonathan Robert Wesson. Bob joined the United States Marine Corps, and he served our country proudly during World War II. Then, he worked at the Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville and assisted in putting the first man on the moon. Bob thoroughly enjoyed his work, and was very proud of his accomplishments with the space program. Bob was a mathematician at heart, and he enjoyed watching the stock market.
He is survived by his devoted, loving grandson, Robert Cambron Wesson (Leigh Anne) of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister, Mary Wesson Walden of Alexander City, Alabama; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Marguerite; his son, Jonathan (Joe Bob) Wesson; his sister, Myrtle Wesson Gardner; his brother Rupert Wesson, Jr; and his loving second wife, Willene Maness Wesson. Bob was fortunate to have loving caregivers, Louise Alexander and Linda Noblett. The family would like to extend special thanks to these ladies, as well as Alacare Hospice staff for their loving care.
Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed laughing and telling jokes to all around him. He had a great sense of humor, and he enjoyed life to the fullest. Music also gave him great pleasure in life, and he could whistle like a songbird. His faith in Christ sustained him throughout his life, and he was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School for a majority of his life and enjoyed studying the Holy Bible . Bob loved and was very close with his neighbors, as he lived in the same neighborhood for over fifty years. His dog, Bingo, was his constant companion for many years of his life. Bob’s spunk for life was appreciated and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
