Richard Samuel Haldeman of Guntersville, AL died peacefully early Friday morning, November 18, 2022 at the Albertville Nursing Home. He was born in Newark, NJ, son of Samuel Lewis Haldeman and Margaret Roehm Haldeman, who both predeceased him. He was 81 years old.
Richard graduated from North Hunterdon Regional High School in 1959 and from Delaware Valley College in 1967 with a B.S. in Agronomy.
He and his wife, Jane Marie Haldeman, lived in northern New Hampshire for over 30 years. He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service as a District Conservationist for 38 years. He then started a second career as a school bus driver and trained drivers for the next 11 years. He served as Master for 2 years in the North Star Lodge No. 08 F. & A.M. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling and taught Hunter Education for over 20 years.
After moving to Alabama for retirement, Richard joined Grace Fellowship (PCA) in Albertville where he participated in bible study. He served as Chaplain in Marshall Masonic Lodge #209. He developed a keen interest in family history and genealogy and he and Jane still found time to tour the south in their 1931 Model A Ford.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane Marie Buckland Haldeman, his sister June Susan Haldeman Filipski, 2 daughters: Katherine Jane Haldeman and Sarah Ann Smith, his aunt, Grace Roehm Lyons, and many cousins.
Memorial service for Richard is set for Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11 am at Grace Fellowship Presbyterian Church at 925 West Main Street, Albertville, AL 35950. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am at the church. Interment will follow at Marshall Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
