John Philip Bannan, 80, passed away May 9th, 2024, at Marshall Medical Center North with his loving family by his side. Marshall Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 at St Williams Catholic in Guntersville with Father Mark officiating. Entombment will follow at Brookwood Mausoleum.
John was preceded in death by his parents Philip Thomas and Julia Mary Bannan; his brother Robert Bannan and his brother-in-law Ken Kowalke.
Mr. Bannan was born in Wisconsin but had lived in Alabama for the previous 57 years, after serving his country in the army.
He was a true outdoorsman who loved being outside in nature. He loved to farm, and he enjoyed sharing the food he grew for his family. He enjoyed church at St. Williams and looked forward to the Seafood Festival each year where he served as a grills man cooking chicken.
His hobbies were watching his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide play on Saturdays and then his “home” team the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. He was a huge NASCAR fan who loved going to Talladega any chance he got.
John is survived by his adoring wife Linda Bannan; his children John Patrick Bannan and Beverly Holaway (Dale); his granddaughter Rebecca Ashley Rutledge; his siblings: Thomas Bannan (Nancy); James Bannan (Sharon); Elaine Kowalke and Mary Brumm (Dan); his sister-in-law Kathy Bannan and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 on Wednesday until the start of the service.
