The funeral for Ken Garrett will be held Friday, April 01, 2016 at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home; he was 80 years old. He passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Marshall Medical Center North. He was the son of Horace and Irene Garrett and was born and raised in Albertville AL.
He and wife Dale married in 1954 in a small ceremony in Mississippi. They had just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in January. He was a US Army veteran after serving at Ft. Bliss in El Paso Texas. He moved back to Guntersville in 1958 and began working as an electronic technician at Redstone Arsenal in 1959 where he worked until his retirement.
For the last 4 years he has attended Point of Grace Church in Guntersville. He enjoyed spending time with his family, trout fishing, camping, flying private planes, working on electronics, and Alabama football. One of his biggest passions was being a licensed Amateur (HAM) Radio operator where he connected with other operators all over the world. Before cell phones and the internet, he often helped connect soldiers overseas to their families in the states.
He is survived by his wife, Dale Garrett; 2 daughters, Annise Horton (Jeff) and Vicky Mathis (Doug); 2 grandchildren, Brantley Mathis and Nicole Ammann (Will); and 2 great grandchildren Desirea Mathis and Olivia Ammann. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Max Garrett.
