James Lee Stephenson

April 7, 1942 — August 13, 2017

James Lee Stephenson of Guntersville, AL passed away early Sunday morning, August 13, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

He was born in Marysville, CA on April 7, 1942 and was the son of Martin and Ruby Stephenson. At the age of 20 he married his wife of 48 years, Valerie Jean Hayes on June 23, 1962. In 1963 they moved to Alabama, briefly lived in Huntsville and then made their final move to Guntersville where they raised their three daughters and adopted the southern way of life.

Through his life he was a jack-of-all-trades with a profession in auto body repair and as a Senior Aerospace Technician with Lockheed Martin where he retired in 2009 with 25 years of service.

He truly enjoyed working on his homestead, gardening and being on his tractor. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Preceding him in death were his wife Valerie Hayes Stephenson; Parents Martin and Ruby Stephenson; brothers Donald, Gerald, Billy Stephenson; sisters Garnett Hancock, Joyce Patton; father and mother in law William and Hazel Hayes.

He is survived by his three daughters Shannon L. Winton, Renee J. Murray and Genice A. Rodgers; Sons-in-law Roger D. Murray, Douglas Winton and Robert J. Rodgers; sister Sue O'Neil (Billy); sister in law Pamela Congo (Gilbert); grandchildren Ben Winton, Lisa Bright (Patrick), Mitchell Murray, Blake Harbin, Hannah Spratt (Kevin); great grandchildren Brett Bright, Amelia Bright, Kenneth Spratt and Heath Spratt

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday August 24, 2017 at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home and Memory Gardens Chapel @ 10:00 am with Interment following on site.
