Emma Nola Fortner, 79, passed away February 5th, 2020 in Boaz, Alabama.  There are no memorial services planned at this time.  Marshall Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Emma was preceded in death by her loving husbands James K Dumas and Randall Fortner; her parents Walter and Martha Moorer; and 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Mrs. Fortner was born and raised in Blount County.  She lived in Oneonta for most of her life.  She graduated in 1958 from Oneonta High School.  She later attended Wallace State where she received her cosmetology license.

Emma met her loving husband James when he returned from serving our country.  They married on her 18th birthday and welcomed their 3 children Debbie, Mike and Danny.  They enjoyed a 22-year-old marriage filled with love and laughter, before James passed away in 1980.

In the late 1980’s, Emma met and married Randall Fortner.  Randall and Emma enjoyed a feisty marriage, where each tried to convince the other who was right and who was wrong.  Randall was the one who turned Emma into a huge animal lover.  In fact, Emma raised squirrels in her house for several years.

Emma collected frogs and roosters, loved Elvis and Alabama football.  She was an avid Alabama fan who supported her team loudly on game days.

Emma was known for her homemade red velvet cakes, banana pudding, apple cakes and apple pies.  When she was unable to cook anymore, it broke her heart.

Emma is survived by her 3 devoted children; her daughter Debbie Colley and her husband David, her sons Mike Dumas and his wife Kim, and Danny Dumas; her grandchildren; Kayla Dumas, Eric Shelton, Matt Shelton, Alicia Nash, Amy Colley, Jamie Evans, Jamie Kerr, Jenna Glass, Kelsey Dumas, Haley Dumas and Emily Dumas; her brother WJ Moorer of Lynn Haven, FL and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shepard’s Cove in her name.
