Edna Smith Bright age 93, of Albertville, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born August 7, 1923 in Albertville, AL to John R. “Cap” and Alma Cook Smith. She married Cornelius Bright on July 6, 1942, in Corpus Christi, TX. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1985. Mrs. Bright had a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and taught school in Birmingham, Fort Worth, TX, Warren, OH and Erie, PA. She retired from teaching to become a missionary with her husband. They started Baptist churches in Warren and Erie and worked with Baptist Conventions in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Mrs. Bright was also the hostess for many mission teams that came up from the South to help them. Since she moved back to Alabama, she taught missions at several churches in Marshall and DeKalb counties.
Mrs. Bright is survived by her daughters Alona Bright of Albertville and June Gray Ganley of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Chester R. Smith of Clemson, SC; grandsons Simon (Anne) Gray and John A. Ganley; great granddaughters: Emilie, Elisabeth and Caroline Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius Bright originally of Geraldine; parents John R. and Alma Smith of Albertville; and brother and sisters: R. C. Smith of Albertville, Nina Wilson of Boaz, Betty Kinney of Horton and Mildred Stetz of Delaware.
Funeral Service will be Friday, February 17, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at 12:00 PM with Brent Roe, Simon Gray and Rich Gregory officiating. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the service at 12:00 PM. Burial will be in Marshall Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Maintenance Fund or other ministry of your choice. The family would like to thank the AlaCare Hospice team for their excellent care and support. Also, love and appreciation to special caregivers Vickey Kinney and Paula Ford.
