Dr. Gary DeWayne Bodine, 54, of Guntersville passed away early Thursday, April 11th at UAB with his loving family by his side. Marshall Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home with Pam Bodine speaking.
Gary was preceded in death by his father RC Bodine.
Dr. Bodine was born and raised in Guntersville, where he graduated in 1987. He attended Athens State College where he received his BA in elementary education and worked for his father at RC Bodine Plumbing. After his father retired, he attended the University of Alabama where he received his master’s degree in library sciences. He started work for Snead State and has been employed there for the last 15 years as the librarian. In December 2023, he received his doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He met and married the adorable Trisha Sackett in October 1992, and their family was complete with the birth of their son Arik. Gary loved music and shared his love of music to his wife and son.
Gary loved to travel with his wife Trisha. He would tell her to get in the car and let’s go, not knowing where they would end up. He enjoyed driving around and finding unique places to eat and visit.
In his spare time, he loved to read and play WOW. He was a loving man who loved his children and especially loved spending time with his granddaughter Ruby. He was Trisha’s rock and supported her in everything that she did.
Dr. Bodine is survived by his devoted wife Trisha Bodine; his son Arik Bodine and his wife Mercedez; his granddaughter Ruby Bodine; his mother Willa Dean Bodine; his sister Michelle Cornelius (Dwight) and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Saturday April, 13th, 2024 at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home.
