Donald Ray “Gunslinger” Holloway, 72, from Boaz passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Marshall Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday June 14th, 2023, at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home with Brother Ernie Dorries and Brother Michael Price officiating.
Leading the way out to his final resting place, his wife and daughters will lead the way. The pallbearers will be his sons.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Opal Holloway.
Funeral Directors in the local area knew him as simply Gunslinger. He was a bigger than life legend in the cemetery field in Marshall County. He was a fixture at Marshall Memorial Gardens for 21 years and the current staff were honored that he chose to spend a few extra hours with us.
Gunslinger was a huge Alabama fan who decorated his “man cave” in Alabama memorabilia. Anyone attending his service is encouraged to wear their Alabama gear or purple.
Donald was a man of God who served his God daily. He found comfort in reading scripture and making sure that his family knew who blessed them.
Gunslinger met and married his devoted wife Wanda Gayle Holloway on September 19th, 1976. They enjoyed 47 years of a feisty loving marriage and made their family complete with 7 children.
Donald is survived by his wife Wanda; his 7 children Bobby Holloway and his wife Morgan; Linda Turner; Taylor Holloway; Jennifer Chamblee; Billy Holloway and his wife Elisha; Mary Kepler and his son in law Allen Steger; James Holloway and his daughter in law Rushelle O’Dell; his 4 adopted children: Marsha Vaughn; TJ Lindsey; Kevin and Stephanie Lindsey; and Eric Lindsey; special brother Eric Martin; 21 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; 7 sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Homehealth and Prohealth Hospice and his 2 devoted nurses Christie and McKenzie.
Gunslinger’s favorite verses:
John 14 1-3:
Let not your heart be troubled ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you unto myself; that were I am, there ye may be also.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until the start of the service on Wednesday June 14th.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wanda Holloway to help with funeral expenses.
