Allen Stegall

Allen Stegall, born October 8, 1921, was the oldest of 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He died May 1st at 7:00 PM at the age of 91.
Allen grew up in Claysville, and lived on the Henry farm with his parents, Ross and Ethel Caldwell Stegall. He was plowing the fields at the age of 13 with his father Ross. His parents moved to Alder Springs in 1938, where he lived until he went into the Army serving from 1942 until 1945, in the European Theatre.
He was with the 455th anti-aircraft mobile division. While in Europe, he saved a young boy from drowning in a river next to a small town in France. He was an experienced swimmer, from swimming with his friends and his brothers in the Tennessee River.
After returning home during the end of the war, he married Willie Mae Robinson in 1947, they were married for 66 years. When they first got married they lived in Guntersville, where he drove a city bus.
In j1948, Allen went to work for Ralph Smith Motors (Ford dealer) as a mechanic where he was employed for 12 years and became a shop foreman. In j1961 he went to work for Cowens Auto Service on Blount Avenue and worked there until L. D. Cowen sold the business in 1985. A short period later he retired for health reasons.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae; a son, Jimmy Allen Stegall (Jennifer) of Guntersville; 3 brothers, Charles (Christine) of Jacksonville; James (Laura) and Olen (Sue) of Ardmore and one grandson, John. Also a sister-in-law, Stella Stegall of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Carolyn Stegall and Mary Jo Rogers of Houston, Texas; 2 brothers, Bill Stegall and John C. Stegall, both of Whitwell Tennessee.
Visitation will be Friday May 3, 2013 at Marshall Memorial Funeral Home Chapel from 11 am until start of service at 12:45 pm. Burial will follow in Marshall Memory Gardens. Brother Chris Herbert will officiate. Pallbearers are Judd Kelley, Wayne Marsh, Kenny Leonard, Terry Stegall, Jeff Stegall and Shan Petty.
